Grace Christian Academy PTA
I am extremely proud to report the 2005-06 Parent Teacher Association has proven to be a fantastic fundraising team. Our parent body has given us phenomenal support since the school reopened in September 2005, and our children have been enthusiastically taking part in all our fundraising campaigns.
In the first 4 months of the 2005-2006 school year, the PTA raised more than $20,000.00, and were quick to put that back into GCA for the benefit of all our children. Some of the major purchases came in the form of printers for every classroom, and several new computers. We replaced our LCD projector that had been lost in Ivan, and had a beautiful cabana built to provide more lunch-time seating and a sizeable covered play area.
We encourage our children and parents to work together on our campaigns. From wrapping paper to community discount card sales, we are a small but mighty sales force. We also encourage creativity and fun, and have had great success with our monthly “Fun Filled Fridays”, the GCA alternative to dress-down day. Our children add silly and colourful items to their uniform, with themes such as “silly socks” and “terrible ties.” We have all enjoyed their enthusiasm on these days, and have some truly incriminating pictures for the yearbook!
We had a month-long coin drive called “Pennies for Change”. We teamed with an overseas charitable organization which sends animals and teachers to impoverished countries to foster renewable resource education. This proved to be great fun and an excellent tool to give the children a chance to share their blessings while learning about other countries and cultures.
We have so much planned and new ideas continue to inspire. From Book Fairs to Backpacks, cookbooks to cake walks, the Grace Christian Academy PTA is excited to continue adding to the overall experience of our school family.
